I've only had mine back there once, for the 700 mile service, and they seemed to do OK, if they did anything at all, for all I know. i sometimes think I got a $120 oil change.
My brother has had really bad luck at the local (Cleveland, OH) Harley dealer as well. Oil leaks that they can't seem to fix, electrical shorts that kept recurring. He finally went to a private shop and paid out of his own pocket (the bike was still under warantee) to get it fixed right. A couple of hundred dollars later, and now its working fine.
And it's not just bike shops. There's a serious shortage of decent mechanics here in the states for cars as well. I had a '95 Dodge Stratus with serious electrical problems (like the car dying in the middle of the road... daily). Took it back to the dealer several time, paid $400, and it still wasn't fixed. And they stole my cigarettes and lighter! Traded it in on an Oldsmobile. So far, so good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
